Welcome!

Hi everybody,

Seeing as this is my first post, I figured I'd introduce myself, and let you know what exactly this blog will be covering, and why you should read it.

My name is Arik Ligeti, and I'm currently a first-year journalism student at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. As an aspiring journalist, I think it is important that I begin to get some hands on experience as soon as possible. That's why I started volunteering for Carleton's student newspaper, The Charlatan. Since the fall I have made contributions to the paper, all in the Arts section.

Why arts? I'm not exactly musically or artistically gifted (don't play any instruments, paint, and I never had an ambitious directorial film project in high school), but ever since I was young, I had a fond appreciation for the Arts. Growing up, my Mom and Grandmother would always take me to see plays and musical productions, and I admit, I spent a few lazy Saturday nights watching some old black-and-white classics with my Grandmother. As I got to high school though, I began to really listen to music. I started out with Classic rock, and I have finally made my way to indie acts of today.

What you can expect to read: Personal experiences, concert/film/theatre reviews, arts-related initiatives around the community/country/worldwide, interviews (along these lines).

So that brings us to one last thing for today. Why on earth do you actually want to read what I write. Well, considering that I'm a journalism student, I definitely have room to learn, and by having this outlet, I hope to strengthen my journalistic skills. Granted this is a 'blog,' not exactly the haven for honing journalistic writing, but seeing that web-based journalism is the future, this seems to be the best place to start, independently at least (I am still writing for the aforementioned Charlatan). On top of these somewhat personal reasons, I feene the Arts (Kanye drama, etc. aside). With the start of this blog, I hope that some of my interest, knowledge and dare I say taste, rubs off on all of you.
